This is the challah I most often bake. Husband and The Little One favor its just-sweet-enough taste, close crumb, and golden crust. When it’s just the three of us for Shabbat, I bake four big rolls instead of two braided loaves.

It looks so yellow and yummy, though I must admit that I love a heavy, whole wheat chewy one, especially dipped in olive oil. Now I stay away or I’ll just get fatter.
Batya, I love anything dipped in olive oil. I think I could eat an old fried shoe if it were dipped in olive oil.
Looks beautiful and delicious. Now I want Shabbat to come so I can try your recipe!
Your challah’s look excellent to me!! Just beautiful!!
Your Challah looks delicious. I like the fact that only has one egg. I will have to try your recipe.
Shimshonit, did you try it yet? Let me know…
Sophie, thank you.
Katia, I find that challah made with more than one egg comes out heavy – at least for me. The one egg makes all the difference.
